A SLICE OF A LEMON PERHAPS

I could see a ray of light shining through the stained-glass window of Holy Trinity church As I arrived the church hall was arranged for a school visit of year two students. The smell of last night’s Shrove Tuesday’sparty still lingered in the hall.

The day was cold and unwelcoming. The first duty was to unlock the pneumatic mechanic Harrison organ built in 1909 and shows signs of wear. The radio news was sad.

The news headline on Ash Wednesday. “Families are making a mass exit and leaving their homes in Kief”

Year two students arrived so quiet and dignified and removed their damp Coates to the back ofchairs.

They listened attentively to father David frequently asking questions about the church.

My thoughts are ” how do you talk to year two students about the intricacies of a church organ.”

The small groupstood around rather tentatively and quietly until I asked “Who would like to play,” A unanimous response from all.
